Summer Internship

Our 12-week summer internship program is offered to students between their junior and senior years and is located at our Store Support Center in Pittsburgh, PA.

Start Date: Monday, May 20, 2013

End Date: Friday, August 9, 2013


Location:  Pittsburgh, PA

During your 12-week summer internship, you will take on meaningful work assignments and make a real contribution to your team’s success.  Our Interns are assigned to one area within Merchandising, primarily Buying or Merchandise Analysis.  Past interns have worked in areas including Nike Apparel, Golf, Footwear and NCAA Licensing.  Additionally, a few interns may be placed within Merchandise Planning, Finance, IT or Supply Chain teams.  The program is structured and includes on the job training, classroom instruction and an end-of-program project presentation.

 

You will also participate in professional development workshops that will teach you more about the company, enhance your business acumen and your corporate office professionalism.  There will be opportunities to meet with senior leaders and attend a private lunch with our Chief Executive Officer.  Our Interns interact frequently throughout the summer at social, sporting and networking events. 

 

Fully furnished summer housing is provided for interns who reside outside of the Metro Pittsburgh area.

Areas of Placement:

Buying: You will be paired with a Buyer of a particular category to assist them in picking styles and determining the merchandise assortment that will be sold in our store.  In addition you will partner with other members of the Merchandising Team to determine the quantity and flow of goods.  Dependent on the season of merchandising, you will also have an opportunity to work with our advertising team to determine what products will be advertised in the ad as well as the overall layout of the ad.

 

Allocations & Replenishment: You will work closely with a Merchandise Analyst to ensure that we have the right products in the right stores at the right time in the right quantities – this role is critical to our overall operations and making sure that our stores stay in stock in the right items and exit product at the right time.

 

Merchandise Planning: You will work with a Merchandise Planner to help plan and forecast sales, margin and inventory turn for a particular department or category.  You will also have an opportunity partner with the buying team to develop preseason financial plans.  In addition, you will perform ad hoc analysis to determine trends, opportunities and risks.

Additional positions: Many other areas of the company support and intertwine with merchandising.  These departments may be available for placement based on business need (Finance, IT, or Supply Chain).

Some of your experiences will include:

·   An orientation to introduce you to the company, Pittsburgh, the program and your classmates

·   Working with associates who are experts in their area of business

·   Attending various workshops to learn about other areas of the company

·   Participating in intern only Q&A sessions with senior leaders throughout the summer

·   Working for a day in one of our local Pittsburgh stores

·   A variety of social and networking opportunities with your fellow Dick’s Sporting Goods associates

·   Watching a Pittsburgh Pirates’ game from the Dick’s Sporting Goods suite at PNC Park

·   Working a 40 hour work week, Monday – Friday

We look for potential candidates with:

·   A GPA of 3.2 or higher

·   Graduation date of December 2013 or Spring 2014

·   A major in Marketing, Management, Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain or other related business major

·   Strong proficiency in Excel

·   An ability to relocate to the Pittsburgh, PA area for the summer



Full-time opportunities in 2014:

Successful interns will be offered a full-time position upon graduation.
